Dr. Iain Mac Labhrainn, who heads up the Community Knowledge Initiative wrote an interesting article for yesterday’s Irish Times. Focussing on the response of third-level insitutions to an over-emphasis on the ecomonmy in education with new community-based programmes, he wrote: “These are still early days, but the energy and enthusiasm of the staff, students and community organisations with whom we have worked show that there is clearly a hunger for this type of activity. Moreover, there is an emerging recognition that universities and other institutions of higher education have a vital contribution to make to the debates on active citizenship and social justice.”

Very interesting blog and I have enjoyed reading about the CKI and its activities. The CKI would appear to have much in common with another similar initiative (LTT) that I am involved in. I have done a posting regarding the CKI on my own blog http://rurality-danh.blogspot.com/2007/11/community-knowledge-initiative-cki.html. Please visit.
